About

Why we exist

Connect JPN is a nonprofit organization dedicated to purchasing and restoring homes throughout Japan. These homes become hubs of community care, ministry, disaster relief, and more.

Our Mission

To connect communities and provide a bridge for Oregon-based missionaries to serve in Japan. We aim to reduce loneliness, promote health and happiness among neighbors, and respond to the unique needs of each community we serve.

Our work is grounded in the heart of Galatians 5:14:

“For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”

Additionally, we aim to improve international relations by creating and supporting initiatives such as Sister City programs, exchange student programs, and more.

The Founder’s Story

My name is Brandon Slyter and my vision for Connect JPN was born from my near decade of experience serving in Japan on various disaster relief efforts. The people, culture, language and country of Japan are close to my heart and have been ever since I was a young child interested in animation, inspired by Dragon Ball. As I traveled the country of Japan for relief work or vacation, my bond with the country strengthened. During my time in relief work, I witnessed firsthand the resilience of Japan through adversity and also a deep need for connection, support, and hope, especially in rural areas struggling with population decline and isolation. Year after year, returning to Japan, my passion grew, and a dream developed: what if we could create spaces that were welcoming and encouraging?  Places neighbors could go to learn, share, relax, and receive support and love. That dream became Connect: Japan Property Network (or Connect JPN for short).
